Where Winds Meet Outfits: Every Free Unlock Path, Then When Paid Is Worth It
Exploration ranks, sect shops, social shops, professions and a daily mirror: the free routes to a full wardrobe, in the order a new player meets them.

Most new Where Winds Meet players spend their first week in the starter look because nobody tells them that outfits come from systems they are already playing. This guide lists every free unlock route a new player can reach, in the order you meet them, then explains when the paid outfits are worth considering.
Do this first:
- Clear exploration points in Qinghe as you go. Exploration level 5 in a region unlocks a full outfit set.
- Join a sect early. Each sect shop sells its own outfit set for sect currency.
- Visit the bronze mirror at Blissful Retreat daily. It unlocks two free hairstyles a day.
How cosmetics work in Where Winds Meet
Where Winds Meet is an open-world wuxia action RPG from Everstone Studio, published by NetEase Games. It is free to play with in-app purchases, with cross-play and cross-progression on Xbox, PS5, PC and mobile. On Google Play it is rated Teen in the US and PEGI 16 in the UK.
The official store text is direct about money: "No pay-to-win. Gameplay content is entirely free, with monetization limited to cosmetic items." That is why this guide can treat outfits as pure appearance.
Key terms, defined once:
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Outfit (set) | A body appearance that replaces your whole armor look, not single pieces |
| Exploration level | A per-region progress rank from clearing points of interest |
| Sect | A martial faction you join, with its own shop and currency |
| Adventure Slip / Harmony Charm | Social currencies earned with other players, spent in separate shops |
| Echo Beads | The premium currency, bought with real money |
| Solemn Echo | The draw currency for limited-time outfit draws |
Game8's cosmetics list counts 17 cosmetic types in total, from sets and hairstyles to capes, weapon skins and mounts. Dexerto's outfit list (consulted October 2026) counts 48 free outfits and 81 paid ones in the global version.
Every free unlock path
Game Rant's free-cosmetics guide (November 2025) maps the main free routes. Set names below come from that guide. New sets arrive with seasons, so check the in-game shop for current stock.
| Route | Example sets | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Exploration level 5, Qinghe | Sound of Valor | Clear chests, viewpoints and points of interest in Qinghe |
| Exploration level 5, Kaifeng | Opulent Grace | Same, in Kaifeng |
| Sect shops | Blazing Midnight (Midnight Blades), Heavenly Frost (Well of Heaven), Silent Current (Silver Needle), Ninefold Freedom (Nine Mortal Ways) | Earn sect currency, buy your sect's set |
| Adventure Slip shop | Gray Wolf, Purple Dew | Play group content with other players |
| Harmony Charm shop | Loyal Heart, Twin Swallows, Still Moonlight | Reach Partnership level 3 or higher |
| Professions | Penstroke Posy (Scholar), Art of Healing (Healer) | Advance the Scholar or Healer profession |
| Season shop and events | Blue Clouds, Autumn Orchid (Season Shop); Humble Hero (Path of the Strong) | Spend seasonal chests or clear event milestones |
Why it matters: five of these routes are systems you play anyway for other rewards. The outfits come on top.
Hairstyles: the daily mirror
Hairstyles unlock separately from outfits. Dexerto's guide (November 2025) places a bronze mirror in a house at Blissful Retreat, in the Qinghe region, near the Blissful Retreat teleport stone. It gives two free hairstyles per day.
Common mistake: forgetting the mirror for a week. The limit is per day, so missed days are not made up later.
The current season
Game8's calendar (updated September 17, 2026) lists Season 4: Forged Ahead as running until November 7, 2026, 4:59:59 (UTC+8), with the Forge Ahead: Volume III pass running from September 16 to October 15, 2026. Seasonal passes and season shops are where time-limited sets appear, so check what the current one offers before it closes.
Your first week, outfit by outfit
- Day 1: Pick up exploration points on your way through Qinghe. No detours needed yet. Just do not skip chests and viewpoints near story markers.
- Day 2: Join a sect and start its daily tasks. The sooner sect currency starts flowing, the sooner the sect set is yours.
- Day 3: Find the bronze mirror at Blissful Retreat. Claim your two hairstyles, and repeat every day after.
- Day 4: Try group content once or twice. It is the only way to earn Adventure Slip, and its shop has sets solo players never see.
- Day 5: Choose a profession to advance. Scholar and Healer both lead to a free set.
- Day 6: Check your Qinghe exploration level. If you are close to level 5, a short sweep of the remaining points finishes the set.
- Day 7: Open the season shop. See which sets your seasonal chests can buy before Season 4 ends.
If you only remember one thing: a full free wardrobe is a side effect of playing every system once, not a separate grind.
Paid outfits: when they are worth it
Paid outfits are bought with Echo Beads, the premium currency, either directly or through Solemn Echo draws on limited-time outfit pools. Dexerto lists direct prices from 60 to 2,580 Echo Beads depending on the item. The Google Play listing notes that the game includes random-item purchases, which means the draws.
Before you spend on a draw, read our guide to how premium banners and pity work, then open the game's own rates page and find the published odds and any guarantee. Plan around the published numbers only.
A paid outfit is worth considering only when all three are true:
- You want that specific look, not "something new."
- No free set gives a similar look. Check the free routes first.
- You know the full cost, from the direct price or the published draw odds.
Common mistakes
- Spending Echo Beads on whatever is live. Limited pools rotate. Waiting for the outfit you actually want costs nothing.
- Skipping group content. It is the only source of Adventure Slip, and two free sets sit in its shop.
- Ignoring professions. Scholar and Healer both pay out a full set.
- Treating outfits as power. The official store text says monetization is cosmetic only, so a paid outfit never makes you stronger.
What to spend (and what never to spend)
This guide does not recommend any purchase. If you choose to spend:
- Spend only on a named outfit you have checked against the free list.
- Never spend on draws without reading the published rates. The Google Play listing flags random-item purchases.
- Never spend to "keep up." Every outfit is cosmetic, so there is nothing to keep up with in combat.
