Update (Oct 6, 2026): submissions closed on Sep 20 and public voting closed on Sep 27, 2026. This post now tracks what happened and what comes next. The winner is scheduled to be announced on Oct 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. PT, and we'll update this page that day.

What happened: Scopely ran Join the Fleet, a video contest for Star Trek's 60th anniversary whose grand prize is becoming a non-player character in Star Trek Fleet Command. When: entries ran Sep 8–20, fan voting ran Sep 21–27, and judging was scheduled for Sep 28–30, 2026. What it means for you: you can no longer enter or vote, but one fan's story is set to become part of a new in-game mission.

Normally our whole thing here is telling you to stop playing NPC. This contest flips that: one real player gets to become one.

The details

Join the Fleet is an official Scopely promotion, laid out in its official rules and on the contest page. Entrants recorded a video under 120 seconds answering three prompts: "I first discovered Star Trek when…", "Star Trek is meaningful to me because…" and "Because of Star Trek I…".

Videos could be in English, French, German or Klingon, with English subtitles for anything not in English. They had to be posted publicly on Instagram, YouTube, TikTok or Vimeo with the hashtags #JoinTheFleetContest and #StarTrekFleetCommand, then submitted through the contest page.

Entry was limited to people aged 18 or over (or the age of majority where they live) in the US (excluding territories), Canada (excluding Quebec), France, Germany and the UK. Professional actors, writers and editors could not enter, and neither could employees of the sponsors and their households.

How the winner is picked

The official rules split the final score into two parts, for a maximum of 1,000 points:

  • Judges: up to 600 points. Narrative originality (30%), production creativity (25%), alignment with Star Trek values (20%) and presentation quality (15%).
  • Public fan vote: up to 400 points. Voting was limited to one vote per day, per person, per email address.

The eight entrants with the highest combined scores become finalists. The one with the highest overall score is the grand prize winner.

What we don't know yet

Scopely has not named the finalists publicly. As of Oct 6, 2026, we found no finalist list on the official contest page, and the rules say the public winners list shows only first name, last initial, state or province, country and prize.

The rules also give no date for when the winner's NPC mission goes live in the game. The winner has to sign additional documents first. We'll add the date here once Scopely announces it.

What to do now

  1. If you voted, watch your in-game messages and email around Oct 27, 2026. That's when voter sweepstakes winners are due to be contacted.
  2. If you entered, check the email you used. Finalists had 48 hours from notification to return their eligibility forms.
  3. If you don't play yet and the contest got your attention, read our take on whether Star Trek Fleet Command is worth starting in 2026 before you pick it up. It is free to play with in-app purchases, rated Teen on Google Play in the US and 13+ on the App Store.

Why this one stands out

Live-service games hand out skins and titles as community rewards all the time. Writing a real fan into a permanent mission is a step further. If the mission ships with care, expect other studios to borrow the idea. If it ships as a one-line cameo, expect the community to notice.
