Star Trek Fleet Command in 2026: Still Worth Playing Nearly Eight Years On?
The state of Star Trek Fleet Command in fall 2026: what Scopely shipped this year, what is still on the roadmap, what the store pages say about age ratings and in-app purchases, and who should start now.

What happened: Star Trek Fleet Command, Scopely's 4X strategy MMO, is close to its eighth birthday and still shipping big features, including a planetary base mode in September 2026. When: the game launched in late November 2018, and its 2026 roadmap is about halfway delivered as of Oct 5, 2026. What it means for you: if you like Star Trek and slow-burn base building, 2026 is a reasonable time to start, as long as you go in knowing how heavily the game leans on in-app purchases.
This is a state-of-the-game piece, not a hands-on review. Everything below comes from Scopely's own announcements, the official store listings and the official contest rules, checked on Oct 5, 2026.
The basics, as of October 2026
Star Trek Fleet Command is developed by Digit Game Studios and published by Scopely with CBS Interactive, according to its Wikipedia entry. It is a 4X MMO: you run a starbase, recruit officers from across the Star Trek shows, build ships and fight other players and hostiles on a shared server map.

So the "six years post-launch" line you may have seen elsewhere is out of date. In October 2026, the game is nearly eight years old.
What Scopely shipped in 2026
On Mar 6, 2026, Scopely published its 2026 plan under the theme "Stronger alliances, clearer progression, and bolder new frontiers." Several items from that list have landed since.
Haven (planetary bases). Confirmed by Scopely on Sep 14, 2026, in its Update 95 feature highlight. Haven gives each commander a planetary base to "develop, expand, and personalize": you place buildings, clear toxic fog to open new areas, and earn account-wide buffs. It is gated to Ops level 61 and above, so new captains will not touch it for a long while.
The 60th anniversary of Star Trek. From Sep 8 to 12, 2026, Scopely ran a five-day Star Trek Day event with daily gifts, five themed milestone events and a promo code (ST60GIFT) that handed out shards for six captains, including Kirk, Picard and Janeway. That code was redeemable through Sep 14, 2026, so it is no longer usable.
A community contest with a real in-game payoff. The anniversary also launched Join the Fleet, a video contest whose grand prize is becoming an NPC in a new mission. Voting closed on Sep 27, 2026, and the winner is due on Oct 27, 2026. We track the full timeline in our piece on the Join the Fleet contest that turns a player into an NPC.
Server-vs-server events keep rolling. Scopely's Infinite Incursions events continue: the next one starts Oct 10, 2026, at 21:00 UTC for US servers (9:00 UTC for APAC, 16:00 UTC for EU) and runs 24 hours, with your whole server paired against another.
What is still on the roadmap
Announced, not yet live as far as we could find on Oct 5, 2026:
- Galactic Anomalies: temporary modifiers on select star systems during events, "buffing or debuffing both player ships and hostiles."
- Open Armadas in The Veil: cross-alliance co-op PvE for G7 commanders, "always available," with difficulty scaling.
- Star Trek: Starfleet Academy content: story-driven content tied to the newest Starfleet generation.
- Alliance Tournaments refresh and further Mid Ops progression changes.
- Dreadnoughts: a new ship class, which Scopely described in March as early exploration.
Scopely also listed Voyager and Strange New Worlds revisits for 2026. The roadmap post gives no release dates for any of these items.

The cost question: in-app purchases
This is the part a new player should look at hardest. The game is free to play, but Google Play lists in-app items from $0.99 to $699.99 per item as of October 2026. The US App Store listing shows examples such as a $4.99 Peace Shield Pack, $19.99 booster packs, and $99.99 packs (Elite Daily Reward Pack, Station Upgrade Pack).
That doesn't mean you have to spend. It means the game is built around a store that sells speed and protection, and high-level players on the same server may have spent a lot. If you are the kind of player who gets frustrated being out-gunned by bigger accounts, set a budget before day one, or a hard zero.
Who should start in 2026, and who should pass
A good fit if:
- You want a long-term game you check a few times a day, not a session-based one.
- The Star Trek license matters to you. Game content now draws on the Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Enterprise, Discovery, Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds, according to Wikipedia's summary of the patch history.
- You want to play on phone and PC with the same account, which the official clients support.
Probably not for you if:
- You want to reach endgame features quickly. Haven alone needs Ops 61.
- You dislike competing against other players: server-vs-server events like Infinite Incursions are part of the routine.
- You know store pressure gets to you. The price range above is real.
At launch, the game earned 4.5/5 from Pocket Gamer and two People's Voice awards at the 2019 Webbys (Wikipedia). In October 2026, the App Store listing shows 4.3 stars from about 68,000 ratings. Those numbers tell you people stick with it. They don't tell you how a brand-new account feels next to eight-year veterans.
What we don't know yet
Scopely has not given dates for Galactic Anomalies, Open Armadas, Starfleet Academy content or Dreadnoughts. It also hasn't said when the Join the Fleet winner's NPC mission will appear in the game. The official rules give no deployment date. We'll update this post when those dates are public, with the date at the top.
What to do now
- Check the store listing on your platform for the current age rating and price range before you start.
- If you plan to play on both phone and computer, use the official PC or Mac client from Scopely's site so your progress carries over.
- Decide your spending limit on day one, not on day thirty.
